“Benazir Bhutto’s Martyrdom: A bloodbath on the Dream of a Democratic Pakistan” – PPP Berlin President

BERLIN – Senior members of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Berlin gathered on Wednesday to mark the 18th martyrdom anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, offering tributes that framed her as a pivotal democratic icon and issuing resolute calls to continue her political mission.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Berlin Chapter President ,Mr,Manzoor Awan addresses a commemorative ceremony marking the 18th death anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (Shaheed).

In his keynote address, PPP Berlin President Manzoor Awan eulogized Bhutto as a “history-making, thoughtful, and brave leader” who served as a voice for all regions of Pakistan. He characterized her 2007 assassination as “a bloodbath on the dream of a prosperous, progressive, and democratic Pakistan,” asserting that the annual remembrance serves as a direct message to the “enemies of a democratic Pakistan based on equality.”

The commemorative event drew parallels between Bhutto’s historic struggles and the party’s current trajectory, with several speakers linking her legacy directly to the modern PPP leadership.

Senior Belgian leader Sheraz Butt, a special guest, praised Bhutto’s defense of constitutionalism, parliamentary democracy, and voting rights. “The poor, farmers, and workers were always at the center of her politics,” Butt stated, commending her role in promoting tolerance within Pakistan’s democratic process.

Speakers unanimously emphasized Bhutto’s role in national security. Former PPP Information Secretary and German Pakistan Press Club Chairman Zahoor Ahmed noted that Bhutto “never compromised” on national defense, crediting her with continuing the nuclear program and advancing missile technology.

The tone of political resolve was sharply underscored by PPP Berlin Vice President Abid Hussain Baloch. “Shaheed Bibi’s philosophy is the only way towards a bright Pakistan,” he declared. “Now whether the sky falls or the earth cracks, we will not back down even an inch from our struggle.”

Looking to the party’s future, senior leader Malik Ismail Qaiser positioned current PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as the natural heir to this legacy. “Bilawal Zardari Bhutto is the true trustee of Bhutto’s legacy,” Qaiser said, suggesting the Chairman is “breathing new life” into the party and may potentially “surpass his predecessors.”

Other leaders, including Mujahid Hussain and members of the party’s Youth Wing, renewed their commitment to Bhutto’s ideology, framing it as a “living force” dedicated to democracy, human freedom, and service to the marginalized.

The ceremony concluded with special prayers for Benazir Bhutto, honoring her as a leader whose vision, according to the attendees, remains the guiding compass for Pakistan’s largest political dynasty.
